My D.A.R.E Experience by Amy Zhang

Last year I had a program in class, it was called the D.A.R.E program standing for Define, Access, Respond, Evaluate. I learned a lot about how smoking and alcohol was bad for you, making decisions and I learned to always stay positive.

Smoking has a lot of disadvantages, here are some of them. Smoking can cause heart diseases, more colds and upper respiratory problems, lung cancer, and it can also interfere with the way the brain works. Chewing tobacco is almost just as bad as smoking, it can yellow your teeth and cause bad breath. Chewing tobacco can also dry your skin and cause wrinkles. On the other hand, alcohol slows down the brain and body. It can cause loss of coordination, poor judgement, memory loss, loss of self control, and slow reflexes. It goes straight directly into the bloodstream and can damage every organ of your body. If you keep doing this it will become a habit, you would want to stop this as soon as possible, for it can cause lung cancer.

What decisions should you make? In class our officer taught us how to pick or decide the best decisions.for example, if one of your friends comes up to you and asks you if you want to smoke with him of her you would have many choices. You could say yes, say no, give an excuse, walk away and many others. Well what, what you do? I would walk away right away because I know what smoking can do to you.

Now let’s learn about how staying positive is really important for you. It brings up your hopes, it can also make you more positive in what you are doing and if you stay positive it’ll keep your body in shape. If you are in a rush to do a homework assignment you forgot or didn't have time to do. Don’t get down on yourself, realize what you can do next time to get it finished in time, after all you do learn from your mistakes! Right?

Anyways, I hope you learned a thing or two from my personal experience.

Fact: Did you ever know that almost 450,000 people die from secondhand smoke and from smoking.
